Activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations on Thursday brought out a flash procession in the capital’s Hazaribagh area demanding the resignation of the interim government.
The police detained 11 individuals from the spot as activities of the AL and its wings have been banned.
Hazaribagh police station inspector (investigation) Shahdat Hossain said that a group of 15 to 20 AL men brought out the procession at about 7:00am.
‘The group continued the procession for about five minutes. Later on information, the police went to the spot and detained 11 AL activists who took part in the procession while others managed to flee the spot,’ he said.
Filing a case over the matter was under way, added the police official. Such processions are being brought out frequently in the capital city.
According to the media reports, field-level officers of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police are reportedly under mounting pressure as flash processions by the AL and its affiliates continue to gather across the capital.
When contacted, the DMP deputy commissioner for media and public relations Talebur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that instructions had been issued for all officers to remain alert to prevent gatherings by the AL, activities of which are banned, and the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Meanwhile, the Detective Branch on Wednesday arrested seven leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations.
The arrests were made during raids in different places in the capital between 2:30pm and 11:50pm on Wednesday, said a press release issued by the DMP on Thursday.
On October 23 past year, the interim government banned the BCL under the Anti-Terrorism Act on the allegations of its involvement in breaching public security in various ways in the past 15 years.
In May this year, the government banned all activities by the Awami League until the completion of the trials of its leaders and activists for perpetrating atrocities during the July uprising.
