Gana Odhikar Parishad organised a solidarity rally, protesting the attack that injured its president Nurul Haque Nur and other activists, at Shahbagh in Dhaka on Friday.

The rally centred around a three-point demand – the immediate punishment of all those responsible for the brutal attack, the banning of the Awami League’s allies—namely the Jatiya Party and the 14‑Party Alliance—along with cancellation of their registrations and bringing them to justice, and the resignation of the home affairs adviser.

Leaders and supporters from various political parties, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and other allied groups, participated in the rally.

On August 29, violence broke out when a procession by the Gana Odhikar Parishad passed by Jatiya Party’s central office in Kakrail of the capital, triggering a clash.

Nur sustained a severe head injury and a broken nose during the attack. He was initially taken to the Islami Bank Central Hospital in Kakrail, before being transferred to the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Nur was moved to a cabin on Monday. Even now he is not completely out of danger, and the chief adviser directed to send him abroad for treatment.
