
Gonoforum has demanded that the July National Charter 2025, formulated by the National Consensus Commission, upholds the spirit of the War of Independence and retains the 1972 constitution in its revised form.
Acting president of the party Subrata Chowdhury on Saturday made the demand at a press conference at the party’s central office in Purana Paltan in Dhaka.
‘We do not want dropping of the spirit of the War of Independence and the constitution of 1972 from the July charter,’ he said.
He called on the National Consensus Commission to finalise the July charter on the basis of the consensus reached through meetings with the political parties and keep provision that the government which takes over winning the next general election would approve the charter.
Subrata Chowdhury also called on the interim government to hold next general election by next February without which the country would plunge into further crisis.
General secretary of the party Mohammad Mizanur Rahman read out from a written speech at the press conference, also saying that they had proposed in the National Consensus Commission meetings that they wanted to establish a Bangladesh, upholding four fundamental principles of nationalism, democracy, socialism and secularism.
Presidium member of the party Zaglul Haider Afrik, central leaders Mostaque Ahmed, Latifur Bari Hamim, among others, attended the press conference.
