Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh at a programme in Dhaka on Friday called on the interim government to take steps for the democratic transition of the country holding next general election in February.

The made the call on the inaugural day of a two-day conference organised by the Dhaka City South unit of CPB聽 in front of its central office at Purana Paltan in Dhaka.


Chaired by president of Dhaka City south Shamsuzzaman Hira, CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said that there was no alternative to holding next general elections for the democratic transition of the country.

He called on the government to hold the next general elections in a free, fair and credible manner in February.

Rafiquzzaman Laek, presidium member of the party, said that the interim government formed after July-August uprising had failed to implement the spirit of the uprising.

General secretary of Dhaka City south Joly Talukder, central leaders Ashraf Hossain Ashu, Saiful Islam Samir and Tridib Saha, among others, spoke at the opening session.

The opening session was followed by a procession that paraded different roads of Purana Paltan area.

To elect the new committee of Dhaka City south unit, the council session of the conference will be held at the Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium today.
