Azizur Rahman Bacchu Molla, father of information and broadcasting adviser Mahfuj Alam, has been elected as general secretary of the Ichapur union committee under Ramganj in Lakshmipur of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

The election was held on the premises of Shrirampur High School on Thursday during the pre-scheduled council of Ichapur union BNP.


The results were announced by returning officer Monirul Haider, president of Lakshmipur District Bar and former president of Raipur upazila BNP.

Bacchu Molla won the post of general secretary with 265 votes in the election held through secret ballot, said local BNP leaders.

He previously served as organising secretary of the same unit of the BNP.

From the same panel, businessman Haji Oli Ullah was elected president with 255 votes, while Jahangir Alam was elected organising secretary with 241 votes in the polls.

The defeated panel candidates Kamrul Islam for president got 184 votes, Kamrul Hasan Fahim for general secretary got 174 votes and Shahid Ullah for organising secretary post got 188 votes in the polls.

BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie attended as chief guest at the council.

Mentioning that BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will soon return to the country, he said, ‘He will take part in the elections and assume the responsibility of prime minister.’

He also said, ‘Under his leadership, a national unity will be built in the country. We can confidently say that in the upcoming national election, a people’s government will be established, and BNP will lead that government.’
