The National Consensus Commission on Sunday urged the political parties to provide it with their feedback on the draft July National Charter 2025 to finalise the document.

The commission made the call in a meeting held at its office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka.

Chaired by NCC vice-chair Professor Ali Riaz, the commission also chalked out a plan to analyse the potential procedures of implementing the charter it has drafted.

The meeting reviewed the points on which consensus was reached during the first and second rounds of the dialogue with political parties during the March 20-May 19 and June 3-July 31 periods.

Ali Riaz on Sunday told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the commission would analyse the feedbacks from political parties on the draft charter that was unveiled on July 28.

‘A number of political parties, including some major ones, have not yet  provided their feedback on the preliminary draft. Today’s meeting urged those parties to submit their feedback promptly,’ he said.

The preliminary draft featured the historical context of the ongoing reforms and an endorsement declaration binding the signatory political parties to implement the agreed points within two years of the formation of the next parliament.

Given the points of consensus till July 31, the NCC vice-chair added that the commission would rewrite the draft and send it to the political parties.

‘Soon after we receive the feedback from all participating political parties, the commission will analyse them and then plan the next course of action. Subsequently, we will talk to experts and political party representatives to find out the options to implement the July Charter,’ Ali Riaz said.

The Sunday meeting was attended by NCC members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Iftekharuzzaman, Badiul Alam Majumdar, Safar Raj Hossain, Md Ayub Miah, and the chief adviser’s special assistant Monir Haidar.
