Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Shafiqur Rahman collapsed on stage while delivering his speech at the party’s national rally’ at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred during the concluding moments of the rally when Jamaat chief took to the stage to speak. Shortly after beginning his speech, he suddenly collapsed on the stage.
Party leaders rushed to assist him and helped him to stand again but soon after resuming his speech, he collapsed again on the stage for the second time.
Later, he was assisted by the leaders on stage and subsequently continued delivering his remarks while being seated. The party leaders on the stage were heard saying their leader collapsed due to excessive hot weather. Â
The Jamaat amir in his speech vowed to build a new Bangladesh free of corruption and injustice.
Addressing youths, he said that his party would not take extortion from anyone nor would they allow anyone to be engaged in extortion. He also said, his party would not allow corruption in the country.
The 67-year-old was addressing the rally, being attended by tens of thousands of Jamaat supporters and representatives of various political parties.
