
A new political party named Janata Party Bangladesh was launched in a press conference at Unique Tower in Dhaka’s Bangla Motor area Thursday afternoon.
Actor Ilias Kanchan is the chairman of the new party while its secretary general is Shawkat Mahmud and executive chairman Golam Sarwar Milon.
In the conference Shawkat Mahmud introduced the party’s central leaders.
The party’s media coordinator Liton Ershad delivered the opening speech while senior joint secretary general Mohammad Asaduzzaman recited from the Holy Quran.
Vice-chairman Rafiqul Haque Hafiz, senior advocate ABM Waliur Rahman Khan, Rehana Salam, advocate M Abdullah, Major (retired) Imran, MA Yusuf, adviser Shah Md Abu Zafar, Major (retired) Mujib, Mozammel Haque, joint secretary general Rafiqul Haque Talukder Raja, coordinator Nurul Quader Sohel, joint secretary general Iqbal Kabir, Shiuli Sultana Ruby, organising secretary Ferdousi Mahmud, Murad Ahmed, Dr Md Masuduzzaman, Abu Sufian, office secretary Mridha Mohammad Al-Amin, health affairs secretary Dr Md Solaiman, members SK Roma and Nazmul Hasan Limon were present.
Golam Sarwar Milon said that the JPB wanted a ‘July Charter’ through a national political consensus and demanded national elections as soon as possible.
‘We want some fundamental reforms, visible trials of fascists, an end to mob violence and violence against women and children, an end to party occupation of markets and educational institutions and extortionists,’ he added.
