Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Friday said that the BNP was committed to restoring democracy in the country.

He made the remarks while speaking at a cultural event organised by the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha at the Central Shaheed Minar in the city.

The event was organised to mark the first anniversary of the July–August mass uprising.

‘Seeing how some parties are opposing the BNP, it seems as if we are destined to come to power. They have united solely to stop BNP from returning to office,’ Gayeshwar said.

He advised those parties to form an alliance and said that the BNP would contest all 300 seats alone.

Gayeshwar said that the parties should check the results after the election to see if they could even save their deposits.

He cautioned the leaders of the Students Against Discrimination not to create new divisions in the society.

He said that the anti-discrimination movement was free from bias but their recent actions were causing fresh inequality.

The event was presided over by JASAS convener Helal Khan.

The programme began by paying tribute to the martyrs, followed by the unveiling of a new music album released by JASAS.
