Politicians, academics, professionals, July uprising martyrs’ family members and injured on Friday called on the interim government to announce the July declaration within July and to hold trials of the killers of students and people during the uprising.

They made the call at a reunion programme organised by the Ganosamhati Andolan, a partner of the Ganatantra Mancha, for the martyrs’ family members and injured of the July uprising at the Bangladesh Medical Association auditorium on Topkhana Road in the capital Dhaka as part of the party’s more than a month-long programme to mark the July uprising anniversary. Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki chaired the event.


The July uprising ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

Labour leader Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, also head of the labour reform commission, said that the interim government could not avoid its responsibility to hold trials of the killers of students and people during the July uprising.

He called on the interim government to take more steps to punish those responsible for the July uprising atrocities.

Internationally reputed photographer Shahidul Alam also demanded trials of the killers and also fascist Awami League government responsible for the killings.

Zonayed Saki said, ‘We want the holding of a free, fair and credible general elections for democratic transition of the county after making justified reforms and holding trials of the killers.’

Ganosamhati Andolan executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel said the first priority of the political parties should be the implementation of July uprising spirit.

Father of martyred Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mughdha, Mir Mostafizur Rahman demanded trials of the killers and exemplary punishments.

Mother of Chhatra Front central leader martyred Zulfikar Ahmed Shakil, Ayesha Bibi also demanded punishments of the killers of his son.

Wife of martyred Masud Rana, Zannatul Ferdausi Safa demanded the announcement of the July declaration within July.

North South University teacher Navid Murshid said that they wanted the implementation of the July Charter and holding trials of the killers of students and people during the July uprising.

Film maker Akram Khan, Jahangirnagar University teacher Hassan Ashraf, and wife of martyred Nurul Afsar Farzana Nila, among others, also spoke at the programme.

About one hundred family members of the July martyrs, and July injured attended the programme.

Musical group Samageet rendered patriotic songs at the programme.
