A leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has been expelled for entering a Higher Secondary Certificate examinations centre in Natore and taking photographs, violating exam rules.

The incident occurred on Thursday, the first day of the HSC and equivalent examinations, at Bonpara College in Baraigram upazila.

The accused, Rakib Sardar, joint convener of JCD鈥檚 Bonpara municipal unit and son of Sardar Rafiqul Islam, former general secretary of the municipal BNP, entered Room 205 shortly after the exam began at 10:00am.

He took photos near examinees and roamed the centre before posting the images on Facebook. The post quickly went viral, sparking public outrage.

In response, the upazila administration issued a show-cause notice to the exam centre and removed four invigilators for negligence. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi also sent an investigation team.

Board chairman Professor ANM Mofakkharul Islam said that no unauthorised person, including political activists, was allowed inside centres under Section 144. Only the centre secretary might carry a basic phone without a camera.

In the afternoon, a press release, signed by Natore district JCD publicity secretary Asif Iqbal, stated that Rakib was expelled from the organisation for breaching discipline.

Baraigram upazila nirbahi officer Laila Jannatul Ferdous confirmed that legal steps were being taken, and the local police were asked to act.

Baraigram police station officer-in-charge Golam Sarwar Hossain said that no written complaint had been filed as of 8:40pm but assured that efforts were underway to arrest the accused.
