The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is set to file a case against former chief election commissioners and commissioners responsible for conducting the 10th, 11th, and 12th national parliamentary elections, alleging serious electoral misconduct against them.

The BNP media cell on Saturday confirmed that BNP central committee member Salahuddin Ahmed would file the case with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in Dhaka this morning.

Prior to filing the case, a copy of the complaint would be submitted to the Election Commission at 10:00am.

The decision followed a meeting of the National Consensus Commission held on 16 June at the state guest house Jamuna, where interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called for the formation of an independent investigation committee to investigate the roles of those involved in the disputed elections.

In 2014, during the 10th parliamentary elections, 153 candidates of the Awami League and its allies were elected unopposed under the commission led by then CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed.

The BNP and its allies boycotted that election.

In 2018, the BNP alleged widespread irregularities, including reports of ballots being cast the night before the official polling day, under CEC K M Nurul Huda.

Although the BNP took part in the elections, it secured only five seats.

In the most recent national election held in January 2024, conducted by the commission headed by CEC Kazi Habibul Awal, the BNP and several other opposition parties again refrained from taking part, citing a lack of electoral fairness.
