The Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh on Saturday called on the interim government to take steps to prepare the July Charter based on minimum consensus among political parties on reforms in various sectors by this July.
General secretary of the party, also a partner of Ganatantra Mancha, Saiful Huq, said, ‘We want to sign the July Charter based on minimum consensus on July.’
He made the remarks and the call at a rally, organised to celebrate the party’s 21st founding anniversary, held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
Addressing the rally, Saiful said that the government had already taken much time for reforms.
‘We want to hope that the National Consensus Commission will complete all the work by June or by the middle of July,’ said Saiful.
He urged the government to take effective steps so that all political parties could sign the July Charter.
The NCC, headed by interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, has already begun second round of talks with political parties to reach a consensus on the recommendations made by the reform commissions.
Referring to the Friday meeting between the CA and Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London, Saiful said that the meeting would contribute in breaking political deadlock and removing doubt about the national elections.
Saiful also urged the government to inform the people and the political parties about the meeting’s discussions.
Politburo members of the party, Bannishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, Abu Hasan Tipu, Ansar Ali Dulal and Mir Mofazzal Hossain Mostak also spoke at the rally.
