Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday warned that his party would take to the streets again if any attempt was made to deprive people of their voting rights, alleging that conspiracy was going on to delay the elections.
Speaking at an event organised by the party’s Badda unit in the capital, he urged everyone to remain united, saying that conspiracies and plots—both domestic and international—were underway to deprive them of their voting rights once again.
He said that such attempts would not be allowed to succeed.
‘Stay alert, stay cautious. The conspiracies and plots have not ended. We will thwart all these schemes and establish a government of the people,’ BNP secretary general said.
Fakhrul said, ‘I will cast my vote, and I will choose whoever I want… This is the electoral process we demand. We are still not on the streets. Instead, we are reaching out to people and standing by them in their joys and sorrows.’
‘But if any obstacle is created against the interests of people, the BNP will take to the streets again. The BNP knows how to press for its demands through movements. I am saying this because we must be prepared,’ he said.
Fakhrul alleged that it was very clear that certain individuals, regardless of where they lived—whether in the United States, France or elsewhere—were attempting to incite people and create division from abroad.
He said that the BNP did not take sides with any country but stood solely for Bangladesh.
‘We do not take sides with India, Pakistan, the US, or the UK. We stand for Bangladesh,’ he said.
Citing the repression of BNP leaders and activists during the Awami League regime, Fakhrul said that Hasina had disappeared by the will of Allah.
‘It seems to me that through the infinite miraculous power of Allah, He suddenly made Hasina disappear one day,’ the BNP leader said.
