The Bangladesh Nationalist Party will hold an extended committee meeting today at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The gathering would bring together the members of the party鈥檚 national standing committee, the chairperson鈥檚 advisory council, and the central executive committee, the BNP said in a statement.
BNP held an extended committee meeting for the last time on February 4, 2018 at Le Meridien Hotel in Dhaka, with party chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair.
The statement also said that presidents, general secretaries, or conveners and member secretaries of all district, metropolitan, thana, upazila and municipal committees would attend the meeting.
Additionally, leaders who received the party鈥檚 final nomination in the 11th parliamentary elections in 2018, as well as those who received initial nomination letters, will also attend it.
The party鈥檚 acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, will join the meeting virtually.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that they expected 3,500 to 4,000 leaders from across the country to attend the extended committee meeting.
After inspecting the preparations at the venue for the extended committee meeting in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area, BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee told reporters on Monday that the party was unable to carry out organisational activities properly for the past 15 or 16 years due to the misrule of the fascist Awami League regime.
He said that the party resumed its organisational activities at the grassroots level after August 5, 2024 when the AL regime was ousted amid a mass uprising.
He said that the extended committee meeting was important for the party.
The BNP held its sixth and last council on March 19, 2016.
