Former independent lawmaker for Narsigdi-3 constituency Shirajul Islam Mollah was arrested on Monday evening from Mohammadpur in Dhaka.
Confirming the matter, Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that the army handed Shirajul over to the Mohammadpur police station at about 6:15pm after his arrest.
鈥楽hirajul is accused in two murder cases in Narayanganj district. We have already talked to Narayanganj police and the accused will be handed over to them,鈥� Shirajul added.
Shirajul, also a presidium member of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling Awami League, went into hiding after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising.
