The Kotwali police detained five people, including two women, in Jashore for praising the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina at a programme in Jashore Gymnasium on Friday.
The arrested are cultural organisation Shekhor general secretary Raushan Ara Rashu, former Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Afil Uddin-owned local daily Spandan鈥檚 photojournalist Imran Hasan Tutul, non-government organisation Jayati Society鈥檚 executive director Archona Biswas, Rafiqul Islam, and Humayun Kabir.
Jashore deputy commissioner Azaharul Islam said that a theme song praising Sheikh Hasina was sung after the inaugural session of the programme, where he was the chief guest.
Bangladesh Shotokan Karate Association鈥檚 Khulna divisional unit organised the programme.
Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said that the police detained the five being instructed by the DC.
