Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, said on Monday that issuing travel documents to deposed Bangladeshi former prime minister Sheikh Hasina by the Indian government was contrary to spirit of the students and people movement of Bangladesh.

The resolution of the central steering committee of the combine, held at Nagarik Oikya central office, said that during the students and people movement in Bangladesh more than eight hundred students and people were killed by the law enforcers under the directive of Sheikh Hasina, who is the main accused in the killing cases.

Indian government had ignored the world democratic community allowing the deposed Bangladeshi prime minster to live in India, the mancha leaders said.

Moreover, after issuing the travel documents Sheikh Hasina could apply for visas in different countries and she could travel the countries and could take part in politics of Bangladesh, which was against the spirits of the July-August movement, the leaders said.

They called on the interim government to enquire as to Indian government explanations for issuing the travel documents and also taking steps for returning Sheikh Hasina and others accused Awami League leaders to Bangladesh.

Mancha will hold a press conference on Wednesday regarding the issue of price hikes of the essential commodities.

Chaired by coordinator of the mancha and president of Nagarik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the meeting was attended, among others, by Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq, Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Jatiya Samajtatrik Dal-JSD vice-president Siraj Mian.
