
At least 25 activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party were injured in an attack by the Awami League activists at Bhangura in Pabna.
According to police and local people, due to a dispute over a social organisation named Uday Sangha, the incident took place at Pukurpar village in the upazila on Saturday evening.
Uday Sangha had been under the control of the local BNP activists Abdus Salam Fakir, Shamsul Islam and Helal Uddin for a long day.
Recently, Khanmarich union AL advisers Faizul Islam, Sanwar Hossain, Ahmed Ali and Roshan Ali forcibly took the keys of the club from Salam Fakir.
On Saturday evening, hundreds of the AL activists attacked Salam Fakir and his followers with local weapons, leaving at least 25 BNP activists injured.
Upon receiving information, the police and army members visited the spot and arrested four suspects.
Among the injured, 17 BNP leaders and activists – Abdul Malek, Abul Kalam, Akram Hossain, Saddam Hossain, Abul Kalam, Gaziur Rahman, Abdul Jabbar, Eamon Ali, Abdul Momin, Sabir Hossain, Shahin Hossain, Helal Uddin, Abu Taleb, Alo Pramanik, Nirzab Ali, Shahadat Hossain, and Sanwawar Hossain – have been admitted to Pabna General Hospital and Bhangura Upazila Health Complex.
As Abdul Malek’s condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Dhaka.
Former general secretary of Bhangura upazila BNP, Noor Mujahid Swapan, said that they had planned to take necessary steps.
Bhangura upazila nirbahi officer Nazmun Nahar said that they would investigate the incident and take legal action.
Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhangura police station, said that the attack happened due to a dispute over the club.
One injured BNP activist Jamal Uddin filed a case against 25 named and 40 unnamed with Bhangura police station.
Four people have been arrested for their involvement in the incident, the OC added.
