A case was filed against 20 people, including a former Awami League lawmaker and three members of Detective Branch on charge of abduction and disappearance of a Bangladesh Nationalist Party activist in Natore in 2017.

Shefaly Khatun, mother of disappeared activist Atiqur Rahman, filed the case with the Baraigram Cognisance Court in Natore on Thursday afternoon.

Judge Md Touhidur Rahman Sumon ordered Baraigram police station officer-in-charge to record the lawsuit as a case, said plaintiff’s lawyer Nazrul Islam.

Natore-4 constituency former lawmaker Siddiqur Rahman Patwari, then Natore DB’s inspector Saidur Rahman, and sub-inspectors Mashiur Rahman and Sazzad Hossain were named, among others, in the case.

According to the case statement, under the direction of Siddiqur Rahman Patwari, inspector Saidur Rahman accompanied by the other two accused forcibly picked up Atiqur from his home at Kayemkola village on January 1 in 2017.

‘On the following day, family members went to the DB office and saw Atiqur there. The then DB officials, however, did not hand over Atiqur to the local police station. Whenever the family members visited the DB office and wanted to know about the whereabouts of Atiqur, the officials avoided answering their questions tactfully,’ the case statement read.

Lawyer Nazrul Islam said that the plaintiff could not file a case due to the influences of the accused.

‘She filed the case as she believed that the accused killed her son,’ he added.
