
Leaders of opposition parties in a statement on Sunday condemned the killings of students and people killed during the student movement for reforming quotas in the government jobs.
They also called on the government to stop block raids and arresting and harassing the student leaders of quota movement and leaders of the opposition parties in the on-going countrywide crackdown.
Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties and some others opposition parties, raised five-point demands, including stopping arrest of student leaders of quota movements and releasing the leaders who were arrested, stopping block raid and harassing the students and opposition leaders, fulfilling nine-point demands of the student, withdrawal of curfew, holding trials of the killers and during student movements, resignation of the AL government from the power for charge of killings and handing over power to the president.
Signatories to the statement were Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD president ASM Abdur Rab, chief of 12-party Alliance Mostafa Jamal Haider, Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq, Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum, Gono Forum faction general secretary Subrata Chowdhury, AB Party member secretary Mojibur Rahman Monju, Jatiytabadi Samamana Jote coordinator Fariduzzaman Farhad, Bangladesh LDP secretary general Shahadat Hossain Selim, NDM chairman Bobi Hazzaz, Jatiya Mukti Council secretary Faiezul Hakim, Gono Odhikar Parishad general secretary Mohammad Rashed Khan and Gono Odhikar Parishad faction convener Mia Moshiuzzaman.
Workers Party of Bangladesh, a partner of Awami League-led alliance, also condemned the killings of students and people.Â
The politburo of the party at a meeting expressed concern over the mass arrest of students and opposition people centring on the movements and called on the government to stop such and repressions immediately.
The party demanded the publication of the list of students and people killed and wounded and increasing spears of judicial enquiry formed to investigate the killings.
Chaired by president of the party Rashed Khan Menon, general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, politburo members Anisur Rahman Mollick, Sushanta Das, Mahmudul Hasan Manik, Nur Ahmed Bakul, Quamrul Ahsan, Aminul Islam Golap, Mustafa Lutfulla, Nazrul Islam Hakkani and Ali Ahmed Enamul Haque Emran attended the meeting held at Rashed Khan Menon home in Dhaka.
