The ruling Awami League on Thursday night said that it accepted the demands of the students who continued protests demanding the reform of quota system in government jobs.

‘The government and the Awami League have been taken a policy decision to recommend 80 jobs in civil service based on merit,’ AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said at a press conference at the AL president political office in Dhanmondi.

Urging the agitating students to stop all types of street protests, he said that Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir, the student wings of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Jaamat-e-Islami, carried out the killings during the student protests.

He also claimed the BNP and Jaamat put their ‘suicide squad’ into the movement to create such violence.

He said that the BNP and the Jaamat were responsible for the killings.

He said that AL president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the law enforcement agencies and AL leaders and activists to go hard-line against the people involved in violence cashing the student movement.
