The Institute of Health Technology authorities in Rajshahi expelled six leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, for their involvement in seat trade and beating a student on the institute campus.

The expelled BCL activists are BCL Rajshahi IHT unit president and dental faculty third-year student Md Al Amin Hossain, activists and first-year students Masud Parvez, Md Farhan Hossain, Shahriar Nafiz, Parvez Mosharraf and Niloy Kumar.

Although the authorities expelled the six students on July 1, it came to the public on Thursday night after an office order expelling the six BCL people and censuring six other BCL activists was shared on the institute’s official Facebook page.

According to the office order signed by Rajshahi IHT principal Farhana Haque, the authorities expelled Al Amin Hossain for one year following the recommendation of the probe committee as the allegation of taking money from a non-residential student in the name of managing seat at the institute’s hostel was found to be true.

The institute authorities also expelled Masud Parvez, Md Farhan Hossain, Shahriar Nafiz, Parvez Mosharraf and Niloy Kumar for six months for beating a student on the institute campus premises.

Besides, the authorities also censured and warned BCL activists Shifat, Sakhawat, Delowar, Naim, Emon, and Kamrul Hasan Sohag, all old first-year students of the institute, for their involvement in the incident.

Md Hasan, the victim student, was also censured and warned for having a transaction with another student without informing the institute authorities.

The office order also stated that none of the six BCL activists could enter the campus and stay at the institute hostel during their expulsion period.

On April 29, a group of BCL activists beat up Md Hasan, a first-year student of the pharmacy department, for demanding a refund of his money which he gave to IHT unit BCL president Al Amin for a seat in the hostel.

Md Hasan, who was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital following the attack, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he paid Tk 16,000 to Al Amin for a seat in the hostel but he was not given the seat.

Following the incident, the authorities announced closure of the educational institution for an indefinite period and formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the incident.
