
Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh on Sunday at a press conference said that the proposed budget for financial year 2024-25 would widen inequality and the rich would be richer while the poor would be poorer.
The CPB organised the press conference at its central office at Purana Paltan where central leader and economist MM Akash read out his written speech on the forthcoming national budget scheduled to be placed in Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
MM Akash said that the proposed budget would widen inequality and encourage the looters and sufferings of the common people would increase.
Mass corruption, siphoning off money, lack of investment, increasing dependency on taking foreign loans, have created crisis of the dollar and are responsible for present economic crisis in the country, MM Akash said.
Moreover, inflation has reached its peak and the reserve of the country has decreased much, while numbers of bank money defaulters are increasing, Akash mentioned.
The CPB and other left and democratic parties are demanding formulation of a mass people-oriented budget based on spirits of the War of Independence in 1971, but the government is ignoring the proposal, Akash said. CPB general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prnice said that his party would continue movements in demand of formulating a pro-people budget for their welfare.
Assistant general secretary of the party Mihir Ghosh, presidium member Shahin Rahman, central leader Fazlu Rahman and others attended the press conference.
