The leaders of the Revolutionary Workers’ Party of Bangladesh at a press conference on Sunday demanded to hold a general election in a free, fair and participatory manner for the restoration of voting rights of the country’s people.
The Revolutionary Workers’ Party, a partner of the Ganatantra Mancha, held the press conference at its central office in the capital’s Segunbagicha.
General secretary of the party Saiful Huq said that the Awami League government had seized the voting rights of the people of the country and remained in the power for the past 15 years without peoples’ consent.
Terming the January 7 general election as ‘one sided’, he said that most of the political parties had boycotted the election, and the AL and its dummy candidates had only participated in it.
Referring to a question of prime minister Sheikh Hasina in a press conference on May 2 who would replace her government, Saiful Huq said that the people would take decision who would elect the next government.
But continuation of the Awami League’s ‘fascist’ rule will increase problems in the country, he mentioned.
He called on the government to take immediate steps for holding a free, fair and participatory general election.
Central leaders of the party, amomg others, Bannishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan and Abu Hasan Tipu attended the press conference.
