A four-day group art exhibition titled ‘I: Under Construction’ is under way at Alliance Française de Chittagong in the port city.
Chattogram-based art organisation Bisubo is organising the exhibition.
French ambassador to Bangladesh, Marie Masdupuy inaugurated the exhibition on Monday.
Curated by artist Sharad Das, also an assistant professor at Chittagong University, the exhibition explores the nature of identity in today’s world, showcasing works that portray the self as layered, relational and shaped by society, said a press release.
‘The artists in this exhibition reflect this tension between selfhood and society. Their practices reveal identity as a layered space — at once personal and political, stable and shifting, visible and opaque,’ Sharad said, adding that each artwork acted as a mirror refracted: a portrait not of a singular self but of multiple selves in coexistence, contradiction and transformation.
The event features drawings, artists’ books and videos along with paintings of 14 contemporary artists, including Farzana Ahmed Urmi, Jaytu Chakma, Palash Bhattacharjee, Sarker Protick, Shimul Saha, Suborna Morsheada and Zihan Karim.
The exhibition was supported by Alliance Française de Chittagong, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the port city unit of the French language and culture hub.
The exhibition will end today.
