A month-long duet collaborative exhibition by architect Abdullah Motaleb and artist-curator Wakilur Rahman is under way at Kalakendra at Lalmatia in the capital Dhaka.

The event explores the connection between architecture and fine art.

The exhibition titled + -, art....texture comprises mixed media paintings, prints, photographs and architectural drawings addressing space, lights and structures.

Architect Abdullah Motaleb has displayed some significant projects created during his four-decade practice of architecture in Germany, Austria, the Philippines and Bangladesh. A series of photographs have portrayed his thoughts on light, proportion and intimacy of space and human movements.

A lecture series of Abdullah Motaleb is also a part of this collaborative exhibition.

‘As an architect I love to play with forms and spaces as well as the use of space by humans in different weather conditions,’ Abdullah Motaleb said, adding that the window is a light catcher and natural lights make humans peaceful.

The architect also said that the contemporary structures of the country indicated limited activities at home as there was little space that affected people’s daily life.

Wakilur Rahman paintings and prints are inspired by his interaction with architecture. Set on black-box gallery, his collages, prints, oil on paper and sketches depict the relation between black and white and other colours as well as textures in the variation of lights.

The exhibition was inaugurated on May 31 and will end on June 29.
