A week-long printmaking workshop titled Bhashajog began on Friday at the National Art Galley’s art plaza at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
Organised by the academy, the workshop celebrates the expression of language through printmaking.
The workshop will explore the power of language to express emotions and ideas in different situations through the printmaking process.
The event run jointly by Shunno Art Space and Chalantika–a mobile studio of Shunno Art Space was conducted by artist Jafar Iqbal.
Every day, a total of 80 artists selected from online registration will participate in four sessions and learn different processes of printmaking including cyanotype, stencil, linocut and screen print at the workshop.
Participating artists created artworks by using Bengali words to express their stories.
The participating artists have portrayed slogans collected from different movements, including the July student-led mass uprising, on the opening day.
‘Amrai Shadhinata’, ‘Pore Noy Ekhoni’, ‘Sanskar’, ‘Bala Bir Chira Unnata Shir’, ‘Manush Hao’ and ‘Voy Peye Ki Hobe’ are the slogans addressed through their artworks at the event.
Artist-critic and BSA fine arts department director Mustafa Zaman said that the workshops would also be held in different districts in the country and students will participate in them to share their thoughts with texts and slogans.
‘The workshop has been planned to celebrate Bangla language used in recent student-led mass uprising exploring diverse uses of Bengali words as slogans,’ said Mustafa Zaman.
The workshop is also exhibiting artworks created at the event.Â
The week-long workshop will end on June 21.     Â
