A 14-day solo painting exhibition of artist Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed depicting debris of civilisations destroyed by wars is under way at Alliance Française de Dhaka at Dhanmondi in the capital.

The exhibition titled Debris displaying 30 paintings has been created in acrylic and pigment on handmade board papers.

His artworks are a response to traumatic events, particularly ongoing atrocities in cities all over the world and destruction including Gaza, Kashmir, Rakhine State in Myanmar and cities in the Middle East.

In the series Debris, the landscape describes the traumatic ongoing horror through broken forms and frenzied brushstrokes expressed abstractly.

Salahuddin also addresses the cycle of political failure of Bangladesh since the historic moment of the War of Independence in 1971 which created emotional debris of people and alienated them from both the people and their dreams.

Artist Monirul Islam inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest while director of the department of fine arts of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Mustafa Zaman spoke as a special guest on May 17.

Kazi Salahuddin Ahmed participated in many exhibitions at home and abroad particularly in France, the United States, India, Pakistan,  the United Kingdom,  China,  Japan, and  Australia.

The solo exhibition Debris is the 27th solo art exhibition of Salahuddin, who has won national and international awards, including the Grand Award at the 15th Asian Art Biennale in 2012.

The exhibition will end today.
