A five-day solo art exhibition by artist Mobassir Alam Mazumder began on Tuesday at Biswa Sahitya Kendra Art Gallery in the capital Dhaka.
The exhibition depicts current socio-political instability with decametric abstract drawings.
Curated by renowned artist-designer Shahinur Rahman, the exhibition also portrays other contemporary issues including impact of urbanisation, deforestation, destruction of war and communal violence created by pen on paper.
Organised by Chayashobha, the exhibition displays 46 recent artworks created between December 2024 and March 2025.
Renowned artist Rafiqun Nabi inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest while artist-art critic professor Abul Mansur and essayist-art critic professor Syed Azizul Huq spoke at the inauguration ceremony.
Shahinur Rahman delivered his welcome speech at the event moderated by poet Zafar Ahmad Rashed.
Rafiqun Nabi said that his experimental drawings gave an impression of ‘design image’ or ‘image design’.
‘His detailed line drawings with colourful gel pen have a lot of elements that can relate current power politics,’ Rafiqun Nabi said, adding that Chattogram-based artists have a legacy of experimentation with artworks and Mobassir also carries the tendency.
Abul Mansur said that uses of materials in his artworks were totally different from the conventional styles not seen in modern art practice in the country.
Syed Azizul Huq said that Mobassir used unusual symbols to portray the dizzy state of his mind and most of the artworks were created in March 2025.
The exhibition will end on May 10.
