The artworks by artist Pradyut Kumar Das reflect the wider philosophy and deeper perspectives of daily life as the portray struggle of low-income people.
The works are now being displayed in a solo art exhibition titled Searching Light at the Gallery Bhumi at Lalmatia in the capital Dhaka.
The event, organised by Gallery Shilpangan, features 100 artworks of the artist.
With 35 small size sculptures in different mediums the exhibition also displays 65 paintings, most of which have been created by burning plastic wood.
His sculptures show details of everyday life of people including flute players, working class people, middle class people, fishermen, while some sculptures include figures of animals.
Pradyut’s painting depicts depression of daily life, especially low-income people and their loneliness.
By burning plastic wood, the artist has created textures and scratches in the background to express the disappearance of happiness in capitalist society. His landscapes portray the beauty of villages and serenity of water bodies where village women collect and use water.
‘I try to paint people’s dreams and struggles that I have collected from the soil,’ Pradyut Kumar Das said, adding that his first solo exhibition is his limited expression of a boundless journey in search of the meaning of life.Â
The 12-day exhibition was inaugurated by renowned artist Hamiduzzaman Khan on April 25 while Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy fine arts department director poet-artist Mustafa Zaman and Naripokkho president Gita Das were present as special guests at the inaugural ceremony.
The exhibition will end on May 6.
