Drik Picture Library, an independent media organisation, on Friday organised a solidarity protest against the targeted killings of Palestinian journalists.
To pay tribute to media persons killed in Gaza, an exhibition titled ‘Gaza Holocaust: Killing the Truth Tellers’ was also held at Dhanmondi’s Rabindra Sarobar, said a press release.
Drik managing director Shahidul Alam highlighted that with Israel blocking international media access, Palestinian journalists were the sole witnesses to the destruction of hospitals, mass graves where people were buried alive, hungry individuals shot while queuing for food, and pregnant mothers buried under rubble.
‘They saw too much, said too much and were plucked off, like carnival ducks in a shooting arcade, one by one. Sometimes alone, sometimes with families,’ said Shahidul, a photographer.
This solidarity exhibition was part of resistance to Israeli aggression and commitment to liberating Palestine with the call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the ongoing genocide.Â
Since October 7, 2023, 191 journalists and media workers have been killed as Israel is targeting and killing Palestinian journalists to suppress media coverage of the massacre in Gaza, the release added.
