An artwork album comprising images of Independence Award-winning artist Hashem Khan’s 220 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, murals and drawings, created from 1956 to 2023 was launched on Saturday.

The Hashem Khan-Parvin Trust has published the album titled ‘Creative Shaman: Hashem Khan’ in association with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.

The album was unveiled at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in Dhaka. The programme featured a discussion and music show.

Prime minister’s education and cultural affairs adviser Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury was present as chief guest and chairman of the standing committee on cultural affairs ministry Asaduzzaman Noor, founder trustee of the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum Mofidul Hoque and director general of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Choudhury spoke as special guests at the event, which was presided over by state minister for cultural affairs Naheed Ezaher Khan.

The chief executive officer of HSBC Bangladesh, Md Mahbub ur Rahman, delivered the welcome speech.

Md Mahbub ur Rahman said, ‘The HSBC is honoured to be associated with the publication of the album of Hashem Khan’s selected artworks. We expect this to be followed by his solo art exhibition hopefully by this year. Hashem Khan is indeed one of the iconic personalities with a diverse range of his works influencing the rich cultural journey and heritage of Bangladesh. The collaboration underscores the power of art to bring communities together and inspire future generations.’

‘I am worried about my artworks because the artworks of our legendary artists have not been preserved well. It is also noticeable that after so many years of the country’s independence, the art and culture sectors of the country are still suffering due to inadequate budget allocation for the sectors. Through the publication of my album today, I wish to introduce a handpicked compilation of my artworks to the new generation. I am grateful to HSBC for their support in publishing the album,’ said Hashem Khan.

‘Hashem Khan’s artworks reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people,’ said Mofidul Hoque.

‘He is not only a painter but also made an immense contribution to the country’s cultural sector. I thank publishers and sponsors for documenting his work,’ said Luva Nahid Choudhury.

The album is available at the outlet of Journeyman Books.
