
Contemporary women artists have displayed their works in a group exhibition under way at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Colours, a women artists’ group, have organised the exhibition, titled ‘Rhythm of Nature’, which is featuring paintings, prints, terracotta works and metal sculptures.
Abhijit Chowdhury has curated the event where seven artists of the group Farhana Afroz Bappy, Farzana Islam Milky, Rehana Yesmin Shila, Rifat Jahan Kanta, Shaila Akhter, Rebeka Sultana and Sharmin Siraji and four guest artists Rokeya Sultana, Mini Karim, Sohana Shahreen and Rubina Nargis have displayed 63 artworks.
The artworks depict the beauty and impressions of nature, motherhood, womanhood, lives of Bauls and others.
Rokeya Sultana’s print titled ‘The Madona’ shows a mother’s role in raising her child.Â
Mini Karim’s acrylic painting titled ‘My Feelings 3’ shows an abstract form of a mountain.
Sohana Shahreen’s semi-abstract acrylic artwork titled ‘Moon Light in Sarover’ comprises beautiful moonlight, water and reflection.
Rubina Nargis’s nakshi kantha-inspired artwork titled ‘Venturing from Rags to Runway Glamour’ depicts landscape.
Farhana Afroz’s acrylic paintings create optical illusion combining colour and repetitive forms while Farzana Islam’s metal sculpture series titled ‘Rhythm of Life’ portrays human relationships and Rebeka Sultana’s portrait series titled ‘Unknown Love’ depicts nature and women.
Rehana Yesmin’s clay-based sculpture series titled ‘Life of Baul’ depicts the lives of Bauls and Refat Jahan’s mixed media series titled ‘Crossing Over’ created with wooden pieces, metal rods, G.I. pipe and jute fabrics comprises birds metaphorically depicting human soul and uncertainty of life.
Shaila Akhter’s mixed media artwork series titled ‘Grey Manuscripts’ shows the pain of departure while Sharmin Siraji’s floral acrylic series titled ‘Beauty of Petals’ depicts the beauty and colours of flowers.
The two-week exhibition, which began on Saturday, will end on June 14.
