Diplomats and tourism experts on Saturday called for strengthening the infrastructure in Bangladesh for eco-friendly tourism, saying that domestic tourism always promoted regional and international tourism.

They also said that regional commitments to tourism should be fulfilled and those should not be made for formalities.

They made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the three-day 12th Asian Tourism Fair 2025 at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.

This edition of Asian Tourism Fair had 150 tour travel agencies, operators, hotels, resorts and agencies from 10 countries, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, the Philippines, the Maldives and China.

The fair comprised regional tourism conferences, cultural events, tourism networking and a children art competition.

On the closing ceremony, civil aviation and tourism secretary Nasrin Jahan, Bangladesh Tourism Board chief executive officer Nuzhat Yasmin, Philippines ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P Cainglet, Maldives high commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed, among others, spoke at the event chaired by fair chairman Mahbubul Helal.

Nina P Cainglet said that regional bonding would increase by tourism.

She invited Bangladeshi people to visit the Philippines.

Nasrin Jahan said that tourists must follow code of conduct to ensure eco-friendly tourism.

‘A total of 1,495 locations are selected by the government for tourism while we need an umbrella body of tour operators, tour agencies, tourist police, travel agencies and hotels, motels and resorts to strengthen the local tourism,’ Nasrin said, adding that the Bangladesh Tourism Board’s 55 motels needed digital database for easy access for local and international tourists.
