A visual artist platform on Sunday announced a daylong programme to be held on August 2, commemorating the July uprising on the occasion of its first anniversary.

The August 2 programme will be organised at the National Museum in the capital, said a press release.  


Representatives of the platform, Drishyamadhyam Samaj, also announced the title of the event ‘Kailja Kapano 36 Din: July Ganaabhyutthan O Sanskritik Nirman’ (The audacious 36 days: July mass uprising and cultural construction) at a press conference held at the seminar hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The platform at the event will observe the first anniversary of the July uprising through a cultural conference participated in by artists of different mediums. They will also announce their future activities on the platform on the day.

Filmmakers Akram Khan, Krishnendu Chattopadhyay, actress Fariha Shams Sheuti and photographer-curator Sarker Protick read the speech. Filmmakers Jaheen Faruque Amin and Dhrubo Hasan announced the forthcoming schedule at the event moderated by Bangladesh Garment Sramik Samhati president and photographer Taslima Akhter.

Actresses Azmeri Haque Badhon, filmmaker Tanim Noor, photographer Munem Wasif, cultural activist Samina Lutfa and singer Bithi Ghosh, among others, spoke at the conference.
