
Today is the 79th anniversary of birth of renowned artist and former Dhaka University professor Mahmudul Haque.
Born on January 21, 1945 at Sreefaltala, Rampal, Bagerhat, Mahmudul Haque received his BFA degree from the then Government Arts and Crafts College and later his MFA degree from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. In addition, he received two years of advanced training in printmaking from Japan.
He started his career as a teacher at Dhaka University’s fine arts institute in 1969, and retired in 2010.
He also served as director of the Fine Arts Institute along with the head of the department of prints and later as director general of Bangladesh National Museum.
The artist’s 39 solo and many joint exhibitions of were held both at home and abroad.
He passed away on January 11, 2022.
