Today is the first anniversary of the death of Ekushey Padak-winning dancer Zeenat Barkatullah.
Born on October 3 in 1951, Zeenat Barkatullah earned her master鈥檚 in sociology from the Dhaka University, and joined the Performing Arts Academy.
In her career, she served as director of the production department as well as the dance and music departments at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Zeenat Barkatullah earned acclaim performing 鈥楰athak鈥�, 鈥楤haratnatyam鈥�, 鈥楳anipuri鈥� and folk dance. 聽
She also acted in more than 80 small screen productions, including 鈥楳aria Amar Maria鈥�, 鈥楪hare Baire鈥�, 鈥楢sthayee Nibas鈥�, 鈥楤oro Bari鈥�, and 鈥楰atha Bola Mayna鈥�.
She received Ekushey Padak in 2022 for her contribution to dance.
She also received awards, including the UNESCO Award, Natya Sabha Award, BACHSAS Award and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award.
Zeenat Barkatullah passed away on September 20 in 2023.
