
The 15-day traditional Baishakhi Mela organised by Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation concluded at Sonargaon in Narayanganj on Sunday.
The concluding day of the fair featured a discussion titled Diversity of Bangladesh Folk Song.
Presided over by poet, folklorist and Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation director Aminur Rahman Sultan, poet and researcher Shahed Kayes presented the keynote at the discussion.
The foundation deputy director, artist AAKM Azad Sarkar, delivered welcome speech while poet Pias Majid discussed the keynote speech.
After the discussion, baul artistes, including Kajol Dewan, Akkas Dewan, Ujjal Dewan and Smriti Dewan performed songs.
Director of the foundation, Aminur Rahman Sultan, said that after he joined the foundation, the 15-day long fair was organised.
‘An important aspect in this year fair was that thematic seminars were organised daily,’ he said, adding, ‘We would like to bring artistes from the remote areas of the country to be properly honoured.’
Shahed Kayes told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he had had a close association with the museum for more than a decade. ‘I would like to say that I have always been vocal about the preservation of nature, environment and the rights of the artisans of the museum,’ he mentioned.Â
Inaugurated by state minister for cultural affairs Nahid Izhar Khan on April 14, the fair featured ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’, seminar, painting competition, among others.
