
Dance organisation Nrittyangan arranged a two-day national dance competition marking International Dance Day at the Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday and Thursday.
A total of 545 children and young dance artistes participated in the competition held in six categories, said the troupe’s general secretary Atikur Rahman Ujjal. ‘We have been organising the competition annually since 2018 to promote dance across the country,’ said Atikur Rahman Ujjal.
He added, ‘The competition has received a good response from dance artistes. Children and young dance artistes from all districts of the country have participated in this year’s competition.’
‘This competition aims at inspiring the new generation to pursue dance. It also gives them a platform to showcase their talent,’ mentioned Ujjal.
The jury of the competition comprised twelve members, including Shanarei Devi Shanu, Anika Kabir Shokh, Tamanna Tabassum, Rahat Ara Smriti, Nusrat Jannat Roohi, Monira Parveen, Dola Majumdar and Sultana Razia Sumi, among others.
They will select top 10 dancers from each category, namely Ka, solo and group folk dance from 4 to 11 years; Kha, solo and group folk dance from 12 to 16 years; Ga, solo and group folk dance from 17 to 22 years; Ka, solo dance and War of Independence-based group dance from 4 to 11 years; Kha, solo dance and War of Independence-based group dance from 12 to 16 years; Ga, solo dance and War of Independence-based group dance from 17 to 22 years.
Besides, three artistes from each category will receive gold medals.
The result of the competition will be announced soon, said Ujjal.
