Bangladesh Swimming Federation is set to host ‘Bangladesh in search of best swimmers’, a talent hunt programmme, which will begin at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Dhaka on Saturday.
The programme will be held in three steps, starting with the district levels at the 15 venues across the country.
Some 600 swimmers will be selected from the first phase. The number of swimmers will be trimmed to 100 through the second phase, and then 50 swimmers will be selected after the third phase.
The final 50 swimmers will be brought under a two-year-long training, under the management of the Bangladesh Swimming Federation.
Swimmers will be divided into two age categories where Group A will consist of ages 9 to 11 and Group B for ages 12 to 15.
South Asian Games gold-winning swimmers Shahjahan Ali Rony, Mahfuza Khatun Shila, Jewel Ahmed and the federation’s coaches will conduct the selection process.
Swimming Federation general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen disclosed details in a press conference at the Bangladesh Olympic Association auditorium on Thursday.
‘Hopefully, through this talent hunt, we will be able to come out of the crisis,’ Shaheen said.
The federation last organised this programme in 2018.
Ministry of youth and sports adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain is expected to inaugurate the selection programme as the chief guest.
