Bangladesh swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi made waves at the Arena Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships 2025, winning silver and bronze medals in the open segment of the men’s 50 and 100-metre backstroke events, respectively, at the Aquatics Centre in Thailand.

The 20-year-old clocked an impressive 27.17 seconds to cross the distance in the 50-metre event on Sunday.


On Saturday, Bangladesh Navy swimmer Rafi secured a bronze medal in the men’s 100-metre backstroke event by clocking 58.90 seconds.

Rafi, who has been training under the World Aquatics scholarship in Thailand since December 2023, is preparing for the forthcoming Malaysian Open Swimming Championship, scheduled from April 24 to 27.

 In November 2024, Rafi set a new national record in the men’s 50-metre backstroke during the 33rd National Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Competition in Dhaka, registering a time of 00.26.79 seconds, eclipsing his previous record of 00.26.90 seconds in 2023.
