The 48th edition of the National Athletics Championships begins without the participation of the country鈥檚 fastest man, Imranur Rahman, at the National Stadium in Dhaka today.

Bangladesh Athletics Federation general secretary Mohammad Shah Alam disclosed the details about the championships during a press conference at the National Stadium鈥檚 conference room on Sunday.

The three-day meet will feature 445 athletes from 41 organisations, divided into men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 categories.

There will be a total of 40 events, 22 for men and 18 for women, with track-and-field results counted using electronic timing.

The lone event outside of the main venue, the hammer throw, will take place on Tuesday at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.

Imranur, the fastest man of the country on four successive occasions, will miss the championship as he is currently recovering from an injury.

The 31-year-old England-based sprinter stunned all by winning the men鈥檚 100-metre event on his debut in the 45th National Athletics Championship in January 2022.

He clocked 10.50 seconds, breaking the previous best of 10.54 seconds, recorded by late sprinter Mahbub Alam in 1999.

Imranur defended his 100m crown in December 2022, 2023 and in 2024.
