The country’s top umpires failed to earn a post in the umpire’s association as they lost in the polls held at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, who was recently added to the ICC elite panel of umpires, contested for the post of General Secretary, while two other international umpires, Gazi Sohel and Tanvir Ahmed, ran for the post of Joint Secretary.


However, Saikat lost to Advocate Mojibur Rahman, while Sohel and Tanvir lost to Humayun Kabir Ahmed and Abdullah Al Matin.

According to a member of the umpire’s association who was actively involved in the polls, Saikat, who already left Dhaka for USA to officiate in the ICC T20 World Cup opener, obtained 71 votes, while Mojibur, who was elected general secretary, got 114 votes.

Kazi Mohammad Yusa Mishu was elected as the president of the new committee, while Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahman Mosabbir, Satya Ranjan Basak, Md. Monjur Rahman Monju, and Amiruzzaman Babu were elected as vice-presidents.
