Bari Siddiqui.

Today is the 71st anniversary of birth of singer and flautist Bari Siddiqui, who enchanted music lovers at home and abroad during his long and illustrious music career.

Born on November 15, 1954, Bari Siddiqui was drawn to music at an early age. He learnt classical music under Ustad Gopal Dutt, Ustad Aminur Rahman, Babir Khan and Pannalal Ghosh. Later, he developed a passion for flute and trained under eminent classical flautist VG Karnad in Pune, India.


As a flautist, he earned acclaim at home and abroad. He performed in many countries, including France, Switzerland, Malaysia, Pakistan, Iran and Singapore.

Besides being a flautist of international repute, Siddiqui used to sing at small gatherings. In 1999, Siddiqui came into the limelight as a singer rendering playback numbers in Humayun Ahmed’s film ‘Shraban Megher Din’. All six songs, which Siddiqui sang for the film, received a huge response from the audience.

He rendered songs of many folk bards, including Ukil Munshi, Chan Mia and others.

Siddiqui conquered the hearts of the music lovers rendering popular songs, including Pubali Batase, Amar Gaye Joto Dukkho Soy, Lilua Batase, Amar Manda Swabhab, Din Ratrir Hayna Milan, Moner Dukkho, Rajani Haisna Abasan, Ami Ekta Jinda Lash, Matir Deho, Nashto Jiban, Bhaber Deshe and Shuyachan Pakhi.

Bari Siddiqui passed away on November 24, 2017.
