Cultural organisation Samageet on Friday released the music video of its song titled Dharma Jar Jar at DrikPath Bhobon at Panthapath in Dhaka.

The music video, directed by artist and singer Amal Akash, was recorded at different locations across Bangladesh. The song had been written and tuned by Amal Akash and composed by Arko Suman.

Renowned singer Kafil Ahmed, writer and activist Rahnuma Ahmed, artist-curator Mustafa Zaman, artist and environmentalist Arup Rahee, singer Farzana Wahid Shayan and Sufi activist Hasan Shah Dipu Noore Sureshwari, among others, were present as guests at the programme.

Samageet president Rebeka Neela delivered a welcome speech.

‘Samageet released its first album in 2011. We perform in streets and at different events, reflecting people’s aspirations in songs,’ said Rebeka Neela.

Rahnuma Ahmed said that the country is going through a crucial phase while people have overthrown fascism, but religious extremism is on the rise in society, and on the other hand, Islamophobia is increasing worldwide.

Amal Akash said that Samageet had been working for 23 years and Dharma Jar Jar is the band’s first music video production.

‘Although we faced many limitations and difficulties, we released this video for the audience. I hope people from all walks of life in Bangladesh believe that the country belongs to all,’ said Amal Akash, adding that Samageet members and their friends performed in the production.

The song is available on the facebook page of Samageet.

Besides screening the music video, the event also comprised musical performances by Rabi Baul, Archana Debnath, Sohag Dewan and Rajib Ahmed Raju, among others.
