The final of the contest of singing Chinese song titled Songs of China concluded at the auditorium of the BCS Administration Academy in Dhaka on Friday, said a press release on Saturday.

The contest was organised under the patronage of the International Chinese-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Centre of the Ministry of Education of China, under the guidance of the Chinese embassy in Dhaka, with the initiative of Shanto-Mariam-Honghe Confucius Classroom and in cooperation with the Confucius Institutes of Dhaka University and North-South University, Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh and Bangladesh Overseas Chinese Association.


Twenty three contestants participated in the final round. Two gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals were awarded in the two groups of Chinese and non-Chinese (Bangladeshi). The remaining contestants received special awards.

The event was attended by Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen as chief guest, rector of the BCS administration academy and secretary to the government of Bangladesh Omar Farooq, cultural counsellor of the Chinese embassy Li Shaopeng, vice-chancellor of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology Professor Shah-e-Alam, director of International Affairs of Dhaka University Shamsad Mortuza, MDs of BCS Administration Academy Abdur Razzak, former consul general of Bangladesh in Kunming, China AFM Aminul Islam and vice -president of Chinese Enterprises Association of Bangladesh Shiye Khangjia, vice-president of Overseas Chinese Federation of Bangladesh Qiu Xiaobin and Chinese and Bangladeshi directors of three Confucius Institutes in Bangladesh.

According to the organisers, the aim of this competition is to develop the talents of Chinese song lovers in China and Bangladesh and provide a platform for mutual communication, so that Bangladesh-China friendship can be promoted through singing. In addition, Chinese language students in Bangladesh can learn through songs and spread songs through education, mentioned the press release.
