Andrew Kishore

Today is the 69th anniversary of the birth of the legendary singer Andrew Kishore.

Born on November 4, 1955 in Rajshahi, Andrew Kishore started taking singing lessons at the age of six from Ustad Abdul Aziz Bachchu at Surbani Music School in Rajshahi.


In 1962, he started performing at Rajshahi Radio as a child artiste.

He started performing regularly at programmes aired on Bangladesh Radio after the War of Independence.

He made his debut as a playback singer in 1977 with the film ‘Mail Train’. He lent his voice to Alam Khan-composed song tilted Achinpurer Rajkumari.

Following which, he received a huge response singing a playback song titled Ek Chor Jay Chole, composed by Alam Khan, in the film Pratiksha, directed by AJ Mintu.

He conquered the hearts of music lovers with songs, including Jibaner Galpa, Hayre Manush Rangin Phanush, Daak Diyachhen, Amar Sara Deha, Amar Buker Madhyikhane, Tumi Jekhane Ami Sekhane, Sobai To Bhalobasa Chay and Beder Meye Jyotsna.

He won Bangladesh National Film Award in the Best Male Playback Singer category eight times for the films, ‘Baro Bhalo Lok Chhilo’, ‘Surrender’, ‘Khatipuran’, ‘Padma Meghna Jamuna’, ‘Kabul’, ‘Aaj Gaye Halud’, ‘Saajghar’ and ‘Ki Jadu Karila’.

Andrew Kishore passed away on July 6, 2020.
