Alam Khan

Today is the 80th anniversary of the birth of seven-time National Film Award-winning music director and composer Alam Khan.

Born on October 22, 1944 in Sirajganj, Alam Khan, a brother of the legendary pop singer Azam Khan, began his music career in the film industry as an assistant music director in 1963 with the film ‘Talash’.


He made his debut as a music director with the 1970 film ‘Kach Kata Hira’. He became a household name with his timeless creation ‘Ore Nil Daria’ in Abdullah Al Mamun-directed film ‘Sareng Bau’ in 1978.

He composed timeless songs, including ‘Ami Rajanigandha Phuler Moto’, ‘Daak Diyachhen Dayal Amare’, ‘Chumki Chalechhe Eka Pathe’, ‘Bhalobasiya Gelam Phansiya’, ‘Tumi Jekhane Ami Sekhane’ and ‘Hayre Manush Rangin Phanush’.

He won National Film Award as best music director in 1982 for the film ‘Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo’. Following which, he bagged the award for films ‘Tin Kanya’, ‘Surrender’, ‘Dinkal’ and ‘Ebadat’.

He also won National Film Award as best music composer for the film ‘Bagher Thaba’ and ‘Ki Jadu Korila’.

Alam Khan passed away on July 8, 2022.
