Today is the 98th anniversary of the birth of eminent singer, lyricist and musician Bhupen Hazarika, who is still popular among music lovers in Bangladesh.
Born on September 8, 1926 to in Assam in India, Bhupen Hazarika conquered the heart of thousands in Bangladesh rendering timeless songs, including 鈥楳anush Manusher Janya鈥�, 鈥楢mi Ek jajabar鈥�, 鈥楢mra Korbo Joy鈥�, 鈥楤istirna Duparer鈥�, 鈥楳egh Tham Tham Kore鈥�, 鈥楢j Jiban Khunje Pabi鈥�, 鈥楨kkhana Megh鈥�, 鈥楬ey Dola鈥�, 鈥楶ratidhwani Shuni鈥�, 鈥楽agar Sangame 鈥榓nd 鈥楤imurta Ei Ratri Amar鈥�.
He sang two songs in noted lyricist, playwright and the first Assamese filmmaker Jyotiprasad Agarwala-directed film Indramalati at the age of 12.
He wrote many songs based on the themes of peaceful harmony, universal justice and empathy in Assamese language that were translated into Bangla, Hindi and others.
He was posthumously awarded both the Padma Vibhushan, India鈥檚 second-highest civilian award, in 2012, and the Bharat Ratna, India鈥檚 highest civilian award, in 2019.
Bhupen Hazarika passed away on November 5, 2011.
